Summer haiku

Jane Dougherty Writes

We had a short break driving through the vineyards along the Dordogne. It was pleasant to get out of the city. Here are a few thoughts that came out as haiku.
The painting is by Ellin Danielson-Gambogi

Peace and quiet reign
sun bakes the fragrant silence
broken by birdsong.

Orderly landscape
lush green vine-ranked sunny slopes
wild mint underfoot.

In the town centre
unsettling smell on the wind
pine forests burning.
